Those High Pedestals: Why We Idolise Others—and How to Reclaim Ourselves

We all do it—place people on pedestals.

Sometimes it’s the spiritual guru, the lover who “sees us,” the celebrity who inspires us, or the parent we never wanted to disappoint. We elevate them so high they almost stop being human. We forget they have fears, flaws, and failures too.

And in that elevation…
We shrink.

We over-give.
We overlook.
We lose pieces of ourselves trying to maintain an illusion.

But what if the problem was never them… but our projection?

In ancient texts like the Tao Te Ching and the teachings of the Buddha, we are reminded to stay rooted in our own wisdom. To be a “lamp unto ourselves.” Because when we stop trusting our inner light, we start following someone else’s shadow.

In this week’s episode of Mirror Talk, we explore:

  • Why we idolize others in the first place
  • The emotional cost of living in someone’s shadow
  • The quiet grief that comes with disillusionment
  • And most importantly—how to lovingly reclaim our power

Because no one belongs above you.
Not your mentor. Not your lover. Not your spiritual teacher.

We all belong eye to eye, soul to soul.

Listen now and remember:
You are divine. You are whole. You are enough.
